How to Survive Your First Day of High School—No Matter What! 😱✨



If you are like Liam Hale, escaping McGuire's High, the first day of High School will not be a problem for you. But if, on the other hand, you are about to face what Ada Simmons faced in The Pandora's Box, be sure you two are not alone.

So, you’re about to start high school—or maybe you already have—and let’s be honest: that first day can feel like a total rollercoaster. Whether you’re super excited or totally nervous (or both), here are some real tips to help you survive and thrive through that major transition. And hey, if you’re like me, navigating a new environment can feel like preparing for an adventure of your own.

1. Own Your Nerves
First things first: It’s totally okay to feel nervous. Seriously, even the most confident people feel those butterflies when starting something new. But the trick is to own it. Take a deep breath, look around, and remind yourself that everyone is in the same boat. Plus, there are probably other students who are just as shy or uncertain as you, even if they’re not showing it. So, why not make the first move and talk to someone? You never know who could become your new friend or ally.

2. Don’t Overthink It
Maybe you’re stressing about whether you’ll say the wrong thing or look awkward in front of people (I’m guessing this has crossed your mind at least once). But guess what? Everyone’s thinking the same thing! Most people aren’t paying as much attention to you as you think. If you trip over your words, just laugh it off and move on. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that confidence often grows from just doing things—even if they’re a little awkward at first.

3. Explore Your Class Schedule Like a Pro
If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably be more excited about the free periods and electives than the actual classes (shh!). But honestly, getting lost on your first day doesn’t have to be a disaster. Take a few minutes to look over your schedule, maybe even map out a route to your classes, so when you walk in, you’ll feel like the cool, confident person you are. And who knows? Maybe you’ll find a hidden gem of a class that you actually can’t wait to attend. (Bonus: That could be where you meet your next best friend!)

4. Get Comfortable with Change
Changing schools or entering high school means adjusting to a whole new environment. But don’t let the unknown scare you. Embrace the idea that high school is a time for reinvention. It’s like the beginning of a new chapter in your life. Who knows? Maybe this is where you’ll find your passion for a club, sport, or even a new book series that’s totally up your alley. Whether it’s joining something new or learning about a subject you’ve never thought about before, the opportunities are endless.

5. Don’t Forget to Have Fun
Yes, school is important, but it’s also your chance to make memories. So, whether you’re into sports, theater, or just meeting new people, remember that your high school years are more than just homework and exams. Take time to hang out, laugh, and explore who you are—because that’s what makes the journey worth it. After all, every new friend or experience could turn into something that shapes who you become later on. 💫
